It is not stupid to think that sodium-ion batteries could offer a threat to lithium-ion.
Sodium-ion batteries are cost effective, less toxic, safer in relation to catching fire, perform better in low temperatures, and charge faster.
It may well come about that, if you want to charge you Ev in a basement, it could only be done if it has a sodium-ion battery. In fact there is currently a bit of a panic in South Korea about the danger of fully charged of lithium-ion powered Evs parking in basements.
