During the first world war a referendum was held on conscription.
Support for conscription was said to be stronger amongst support troops ie. cooks, staff, Generals etc. but it was strongly rejected by front-line troops. Was this about "nobody should be forced into a hell by incompetent and arrogant elites"?
As an Australian I want Australian troops sent to Australian wars properly trained, lead and resourced with clear objectives and a timetable to get out, for Australian values.
Australian soldiers were betrayed stepping into Afghanistan.
How dumb is the Taliban? I'd guess the information was out of date before it was created.

Note that on the current release the US was approached about vetting the cables, they refused. The fact is they couldn't care about collateral damage, something else was far more important in the scheme of things for them (what?). I would suggest to you Australian soldiers do not fill up much of their thought space.
Again in cables I have read names have been substituted with xxx's.
