Production

"Having commenced production in May, monthly production at Vlakvarkfontein ramped up to the monthly target of 100,000t in July and October. However, production in August and September was below target due to development (and removal of waste rock) away from the initial box cut in order to open up additional areas for mining. The mines stockpiles were also at capacity during this period. Looking ahead, we believe consistent monthly production of ~100,000t is achievable due to the expansion of the pit and following the planned acquisition of adjacent surface rights. Indeed, October 2010 production of 102,000t confirms this. At these production rates, the current resources of 17Mt are sufficient for a mine life of at least 10 years."

Ferriera Production

"Ferreira, was one of the key assets acquired from Mashala and currently produces approximately 40,000 tonnes per month of export quality coal from the B and C-lower seams. In addition to this, the mine produces approximately 15,000tpm of domestic quality thermal coal from the C-Upper seam which it sells to Eskom. Mining at Ferreira commenced in August 2008 and is undertaken by contractors. A conventional opencast mine, it produced approximately 600,000 tonnes in FY09. Although the mines current resources of 3Mt are relatively small, the company has identified opportunities to acquire additional resources with the potential to extend the current 18-month mine life by a further two years. Continental Coal made its first sale of export quality thermal coal during November."

Edison have only around 80Kt for Aug/Sept BUT Oct was back to 100Kt.Ferriera was still cranking at 40Kt of export thermal per month with another 15Kt of domestic.
