have you never travelled in NZ??
travellers from decades back always told tales about NZ direction giving
if you were on a road walking or biking or similar and you asked a Kiwi where was '???' and how far
they pointed in a direction and said that it was an easy walk - only a couple of kilometres
often, it was in the opposite direction and 20 km away
don't know if it was some kind of pranky sense of humour or smokin too much of that stuff
perhaps they've been learning tricks from our big brother, the Americans - who, with all the wizzbang electronics - still manage to bang ships into each other (in daylight and good weather) and run their submarines into bloody great mountains
of course - the incident you are talking of is to do with war machines - and one does - push the limits often
maybe dropping out nav stuff or similar. You have to train for losing stuff - and, at the best of times on boats -------------- shit happens
