In my opinion using the mudline suspension equipment to suspend the exploration well for later production was a mistake... it takes extra time (and cost) during the drilling phase and then (due to problems with the tie-back) took longer to start the completion phase than it did to drill to the top of the reservoir on the original well.
Sidetrack out of un-cemented 7" was a high risk option compared to sidetrack from the 9-5/9" only slightly higher (but with no risk of the annular flow from around the 7".
No compatibility testing of swelling packer was an unforgivable mistake.
Snail pace response to problems is not ideal.
But that said, I am still reasonably confident that the result this time will be Ok.
