Yes that after close volume is very interesting. Well spotted.
I don't know much about gaps and QBE. Since July QBE has bounced between low $16 to mid $18 and is currently pushing the top of that range. The high open price today didn't last but there is plenty of upside scope if it breaks $18.80 or so at close. That would also confirm a break in a year long down trend IMO.
With strong company fundamentals and improving US markets/yields/$ it would make sense for the next move to be up. But that doesn't mean it will happen.
I am waiting for a clear direction away from $18.40.
