Ukraine strike on Russia's Shahed drone hub sparks chain detonations

In a statement on Telegram, Ukraine's General Staff said the attack struck the base in Yeysk in Russia's southern Krasnodar region where 400 Iranian Shahed drones were stored. Video shared on social media showed explosions lighting up the night sky.

The destruction of the drone storage base "will significantly reduce the ability of the Russian occupiers to terrorize civilians in Ukrainian cities and villages," said the statement, according to a translation. It added, "combat work on the military targets of the invaders continues."

The Ukrainian statement did not specify what munitions were used in the attack but the open-source X account OSINT Technical said cruise missiles had successfully hit the facility, causing secondary explosions.

It comes a day after Ukraine's General Staff said a Ukrainian drone strike had set ablaze the 67th Arsenal of Russia's Main Missile and Artillery Directorate (GRAU), located near the city of Karachev in Bryansk Oblast.

Ukraine said the site contained guided aerial bombs, missiles, artillery weapons as well as North Korean ammunition. Pyongyang has emerged during the war as a key supplier of weapons for Russia's military.
