Another poll showing the tide turning against Putin.
47% of Russians now see Putin's failed war on Ukraine as bad for Russia. More than the number who view it as good.
Tick tock...
Almost half of Russians began to see more harm than good in the war in Ukraine
The share of Russians who believe that the invasion of Ukraine has done more harm than good has reached 47% by September, according to the results of a Levada Center poll. The number of those who believe that the war is progressing successfully has decreased by 10 percentage points (to 60 %) since February.
According to the director of the social service, Denis Volkov, the data indicate the accumulation of fatigue in Russian society.Details. The number of respondents who believe that the war has caused more harm increased by 6 percentage points from May 2023 to September 2024, from 41% to 47%.
The number of those who believe that the war has brought more benefit decreased more sharply – by 10 percentage points, from 38% to 28%. There are especially many who are dissatisfied with the results of the war in the groups: women (55 %) , young people under 24 (55 %) and residents of small towns with a population of up to 100 thousand people (52 %) . When asked what respondents mean when they talk about harm, 52% of respondents named the loss of life, suffering, and grief; 21% - the loss of military personnel; 18% - the deterioration of the economic situation, rising prices, and large expenditures on war.
Throughout the year, the number of those who believe that the war is going well has been decreasing. In September, only 60% of respondents assessed the course of military operations this way, while in February, 70% of respondents said so. 23% of respondents in September said that the war was going poorly.
In September, 54% of respondents spoke in favor of moving to negotiations (+ 4 percentage points compared to August). 72% of respondents said they would support Vladimir Putin's decision to end the military conflict. However, if he decides to end the conflict and return the "annexed territories" to Ukraine, only 31% of respondents will support this decision. The results of the survey show that Russians are gradually becoming tired, Volkov told Agency. However, according to him, there are no dramatic changes, because "the majority can continue to live their private lives."
"The majority wants peace, but leaves this decision to the authorities," the sociologist emphasized.
