    I agree with your points but IMHO there are other fears. Even if we could be on the right side of the market, we might not be able to "cash out our bets" so to speak. They might shut down the exchanges and even the internet. That's what could happen in the extreme case, which is not out of the question. I'm not looking to make huge profits from any major crash. I'm looking for insurance. Like buying an insurance policy to cover the loss of a house in case of a fire, I'm looking for ways to insure against a systematic failure in the markets, even if it turns out I can't cash it out. I might be able to time it to cash it out just before they turn the lights out
