The RBA have initiated a review on the banks/service providers with regard to the merchant fees they charge, the suggestion is that the fees they charge retailers are too high.
So the likely outcome is that retail customers stop paying surcharges on debit cards, the retailers (who are paying merchant fees) will pay less & the banks/ service providers margins will get their margins squeezed.
IMO you wouldn't want to be invested in a small player providing payments services with the same business model as the banks going forward.
