"The DLE industry is expected to grow to more than $10 billion in annual revenue within the next decade by supplying lithium for EV batteries in hours or days, not months or longer as with existing large, water-intensive evaporation ponds and open pit mines.
This move positions Rio to meet growing demand for #electricvehicle #batteries with more efficient, sustainable methods, as regions like Chile shift away from traditional evaporation ponds.
DLE provides a quicker and more effective method for extracting lithium, achieving up to 90% recovery rates compared to around 50% with evaporation ponds. Although no fully commercial DLE operations exist yet, the sector is poised for rapid growth, potentially transforming lithium supply in the coming years.
