Power stations face new limits on the amount of carbon dioxide they can produce.Under the plans, power stations would be limited to emitting between 450 grammes and 600 grammes per kilowatt hour of carbon dioxide. The new restrictions would apply to all coal-fired power stations. One official said: "We don't want any unabated coal."Existing power stations would be expected to be equipped with "carbon capture and storage" technology. This would see power stations fitted with a form of catalytic converter. The carbon dioxide would then be piped and stored in large subterranean chambers under the North Sea.Copyright ? 2010 The Telegraph Group Limited, London
