Rankings are just another data point. Hate to burst your bubble but they aren't going to wildly increase expectations as you suggest, but nor are they completely meaningless as you also suggest.
I find it's a useful indicator of market position/share during a high volume period.
If A2 failed to show up, it would be a cause for concern and it would not go unnoticed.
But they are never going to cause a sudden increase in SP because they are not revenue figures. It's just a temperature check but feel free to ignore and scroll on.
