For what it's worth I reckon the fact Dave talks about liquidity event and Pete talks about licencing doesn't mean there on different pages.
Pete is selling the technology to technologists, and most of those guys love the shiny new thing - but Pete is selling the "so what" message, which could be a) solve your bottleneck b) generate some licence revenue ... (Plenty of others I'm sure)
To a potential buyer of the company, who ultimately Dave is pitching to, it is really important for hen to understand "what it can do for my business". So Peter's work of selling the sizzle not the steak (the outcomes not the chip) is hugely important to drive the enterprise value up for Dave's conversations.
The two focusses work hand in glove and not an indication that management is misaligned - in fact show some level of organisation (you focus on that, I'll focus on this).
