Scottport, I am happy to be corrected, but it was explained to me that when you see a 1 in the buy (or sell) queue that is a broker holding a position. Unlike us a broker then can make any change to that number of shares and not loose his position, eg he puts a 1 share buy in at 2 cents and then he has the time to make a judgement call as to whether he wants to buy 10000 shares of 1,000,000 shares. Where if we had an order in to buy 10,000 shares and we wanted to change it to 1,000,000 shares the additional purchase of 990,000 shares would go to the bottom of the buy queue.

Occassionally the 1 slips through before the broker has got around to either deleting it or adjusting it.
