Anna Bligh joins nuclear chorus: reportPublished 5:47 AM, 24 Dec 2010 Last update 5:47 AM, 24 Dec 2010
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Queensland premier Anna Bligh has joined those calling on the Labor government to review its nuclear power policy, saying that renewable energy is not sufficient to meet power demands, according to a report in The Australian.
Ms Bligh said that nuclear energy is the only available option given public resistance to dams that would have boosted hydroelectricity production.
The premier joins other Labor figures, such as Resources Minister Martin Ferguson, Australian Workers Union head Paul Howes, former NSW premier Bob Carr and Labor senators Mark Bishop and Steve Hutchins in calling for a review of the Labor Party's ban on nuclear power.
The central debate over the party's nuclear stance will likely occur at Labor's next national conference in December 2011, according to The Australian.
