Albanese's leadership - may indeed be wasted. That presupposes that he's got something special - which, he well might have, but may not have.
The problem in Australia is NOT in the end - leaders or leadership ----------- the problem is Australians and Australia
Australia is totally hobbled by a toxic and cancerous political system - and Oz will go nowhere until it's totally reformed ------------ end of story

Australia is a pretty nice place to be in with it's 'laid back' attitudes in 'several' (but not all areas)

whilst this kind of culture is kinda nice to move around in day to day for most of us -
it is - for nation building, a total and unmitigated disaster recipe for nation building
in short - you just cannot build a nation with such a shrug of the shoulders and she'll be right attitude --------- it's impossible.
It might work for bumbling along in a 1920 or 1950 era when you see a car - you lift the bonnet and most men and several women would have some kind of understanding of what they see ---------- pretty simple - that's the carbie, that's the air filter, that's the sparkplugs and that's the distributor
but, this is NOT 1950 ----------- it is 2024 - and people open the bonnet of a new car these days and they usually say one of 2 things - either
1. wtf is that? or
2. where's the engine?
the point - is that times have changed. This is a high tech world, in which unchanged simple humans live --------- and in a high tech world -
what does not work at all is ----------------- 'she'll be right'
have one little simple 'she'll be right cobber' in a line of code - and you can kill an entire company or devastate millions of people
And when we see political leadership - what do we see? We see politicians promising AND then doing things - which are pretty close in simplicity to tinkering under the bonnet of a 1950 car ----
why? because it's what they know
they cannot lift the bonnet of the 2024 political and nation building car - peer inside and understand what they see -
they have the same reaction - 'huh, wtf is that?' 'where's the engine'
so what they do - is that they pretend that it's a 1950 car and they hit what they think is the problem area with a hammer (listen to political promises from 60 years ago - they are exactly the same now)
AND - they are NOT allowed by voters to INVEST in sending their people on proper training courses to find out exactly what works in the new times, how it works and how to design new bits
Australians WILL NOT fund things like national education - because they feel that an individual is the one who benefits from that expenditure - they cannot grasp that the 'cost' is actually an INVESTMENT that Australia needs - AND should pay for.
For example - if Labor now - promised free education for any and all Australians at tertiary level ------------ there would be political resistance
and yet - it's exactly what the country needs - and it needs it for it's security -
voters will cop spending a trillion on some kind of nuke sub for the economic battle of america v china ----------- but, they won't cop investing a trillion in their own people to make a secure Oz
they would indeed - vote out anyone who suggested it
yes, there's a history of spectacular lack of vision in Ozzie leaders - but, a lot of it is because - Aussies won't allow such necessary things -----------
they think 'it's my tax dollars, and I'm alright jack' 'she'll be right'
and I'm sorry ----------------- it's NOT right, not at all
