tyres and cars in places where one has winters is always -------- a giant pain in the arse
you can't get away from the fact that if you have dedicated wheels and tyres for winter - and a set for summer
you have to store them somewhere
you have to pay for them also
if you get long use out of either - then after so long, they all go hard and lose that grip that you want - if you want to be on top of it - be a girl and be married to a german - they seem quite happy to change tyres regularly and to put up with such fiddling about - otherwise - it's a giant pain
I've no doubt that driving a smart car, the tyres wear slower - and if one drives like a french country man or woman - instead of driving like a german - the tyres probably last a lot longer too.
As to noise, I'm surprised that all this time after we invented the pneumatic tyre - that the things are still so bloody noisy on the road, you can hear them from kilometres away
