this is a good article on political landscape in Tanz which equally applies to most African nations. Will come down to Govt at the time. Current govt seems pro mining previous one thought best to increase taxes and take percentage ownership in mines like Epanko. Killed confidence in sector. Who knows what would happen if new govt came into power, what is clear though is China's influence in Africa and the financial carrot they give to African nations to encourage them to allow China to take interests in mining projects. Then there is the farmers and locals who protest eg Syrah. Epanko has a number of communities who will be displaced from their homes who knows how the govt will react to these protests. For me investing in earlier stage mining companies is highly risky, having them based in Africa adds an extra layer or two of risk.
