Everytime they raise the bar to try and tackle the situation, the bar has already moved higher as a result of their previous action/inaction.
Every response they've taken, has only inflamed the situation. Should be a textbook example of what not to do in such a situation. They've dug themselves into a hole.
This is what happens when you mix arrogance and stupidity with power.
