By air it's about 25 miles. Cuckoos can fly 20 mph, so that's about an hour and 15 minutes across the Mohave Desert. The difference between the Freeport-McMoRan mine at Bagdad and the AZL project at Big Sandy is that they already own the land at Bagdad and aren't applying for permits to use government property.
