I have worked retail / furniture for many years , in buying groups just like harveys. They run a fair amount of imported chinese / asian gear etc . They are no different to any furniture group & will buy the cheapest available stock & screw the aussie manufacturers for the best deal, This is why our aussie manufacturing base has declined over the last ten odd years just can't compete.
Harveys latest gripe is good & bad. It would help our local
businesses to stay profitable employing aussies & giving our kids a future. The bad part is competition & we should be able to buy goods from anywhere in the world ( now how do I claim that warranty ?)
He is right about cheaper wages in America hurting us, but its not just in USA just look at the pay scales Mcdonalds, KFC, Subway etc pay our kids & then compare that to what your local fast food outlet has to pay under the federal award...why should the big American franchises get a huge advantage with sub standard wages !! Its just the future
