The NEURAVIS project is a collaborative initiative aimed at integrating neuromorphic computing into space-grade microprocessors to enhance the autonomy and efficiency of space missions. Spearheaded by Airbus Defence and Space, the project brings together industry leaders including BrainChip, Neurobus, and Frontgrade Gaisler, with support from the European Space Agency (ESA).
Objectives:
Neuromorphic Integration: Incorporate BrainChip's Akida™ neuromorphic processor into Frontgrade Gaisler's next-generation fault-tolerant, radiation-hardened microprocessors. This integration aims to develop the world's first space-grade System-on-Chip (SoC) with embedded artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Enhanced Autonomy: Enable space-borne systems to perform complex AI inference tasks on-board, reducing reliance on ground-based computations and improving real-time decision-making.
