You are right that there is a buyer for every seller, but not necessarily every price point. For example if I am a committed buyer at, for example 10 cents and there are some sellers at 10 cents but not enough to fulfil my order I may be prepared to pay 11 cents to fulfill my order. Some major insto's may clear out pricing over a number of price points to achieve their aim. They may clean out buyers at 10, 11 and 12 cents to achieve their aims.
There is a charting method that shows volumes of trades at each price point. This may demonstrate where previous volume was generated in the past and it may show congestion from the past where the buyers or sellers met. Some people will have benefitted just as others have not benefitted from the transaction. The same pricepoint, if traded again might see people jumping out there for close to break even. Hence there will be a lot of churning through that price. Hope that makes sense.
