I like to consider and enjoy my environment, fortunately I live in the best town, state, country and planet in the known universe at present. Sometimes in life I have had the need to be asked “what are you made of ?”…the cheeky reply is “mainly carbon and H20….but push me if you really want to find out”

I also like to consider “what is this funny blue rock we are all spinning on made of”….mainly oxygen, silicon and a whole lot of Hope..


Agree with a few points above from my layman’s understanding the cathode is presently becoming the limiting factor. As is cost and availability of the humans to do the work, the elements and minerals that make it possible and the location and refinement of those materials

A major benefit I think is very overlooked of going from graphite to higher silicon whilst density gains taper off at present due to cathode, electrolyte and separator present limits and density seems to get the most attention a major issue going forward is access to the elements and materials that make all this work.

One rather cool thing that happens in a “hot” geopolitical climate is silicon is pretty available in many countries, accessible and market is not overly controlled yet for its supply. Ditch the graphite which is rather controlled in its availability and supply and
switch to a more abundant base element and wow what do you know….a lot of the shipping and supply chain issues can also be resolved in country of manufacturer or very nearby. This part makes me confident silicon will benefit greatly in the next decade.

Access is an overlooked issue IMO







Table below shows a good idea of the major producers it is not too dissimilar to graphite as far as producers go at present….but…..reserves are ample in majority of countries that wish to tap the resource.
