    Oilman,

Some private brokers might want the money the same day if you have a history of failed settlements etc.

Most online brokers don't. I use Westpac and they have t+3 trading, so do commsec and most others. If you buy on Monday you have to sell on Wednesday to avoid settlement on Thursday. If you sell on Wednesday for a profit, it is still treated as a t+3 and you get you money on the Monday.

If you spend $20,000 on Monday, your account is due to be debited by $20,000 on thursday morning. If you sell the shares for $19,000 on Wednesday, T+3 brokers offset the amounts and therfore only debit your account $1000 on Thursday.
