Hanrahan, no you do not have it straight, let me help you.
I do not nor do I think I will ever have the full story. When I read an opinion piece and I disagree with it then I do with it what I please, it is an opinion piece. When I come across an article or scientific paper I look for the rational, the sampling method, the assumptions and try to work out if I am wrong in my current state of thinking or if the author of the paper is wrong through an error in thier making. I then absorb the information to inform my pinion on the subject. I do not dismiss anything outright except opinion pieces.
