I follow a few companies like Alicanto, explorers with good-looking grounds in safe and not-so-safe jurisdictions. What I like about these guys is that they are in a very safe jurisdiction for mining; the thing I do not like, which is the barrier to my investing, is that they are purely an exploration play.
Exploration is excellent, and the upside is always so intriguing for investors; it is just that the chances of a big find any time soon are not great, and the continuing cash burn and endless fundraising and resulting dilution are not so excellent.
Alicanto should be looking to get into the producing game, and being an ASX-listed company working in the Nordic region, they are in the box seat to pick up nearby close to producing mines. The price tag in the region for profitable producing mines is crazy, but there are still a few bargains out there in the private sector, at least at the moment. A private company owns a gold mine next door in Finland; it is ready to go back into production. The mine has had a few runs, but the gold price was too low, and the debt was too much. Now, the price of gold has taken off and is heading higher while the Euro falls, and with no debt, this project is prime to be taken out by a listed company like Alicanto.
It is worth the time to check out the video below. The company is Laiva Gold, and the mine is directly across the Baltic Sea from Alicanto's other projects. They might be too late, as I am sure others will be looking at them, but what a great setup, production and exploration right next door; the share price would finally take off. If not Laiva Gold, then something else, but they need a "cash cow", not neverending raises.
