First of all the alternative is to buy the lithium products from China. And therefore be beholden to the whims of China. There are more than one way to wage war. You can control certain commodities. You can populate a region to an extent that a race can control local, county and national politics. There are countries that do this and they do it openly and by stealth. The western communities are awakening to this.
Any mining will be done with the upmost environmental stewardship. That will be a condition of approval. Will there have to be some compromise? Yes but you cannot have your cake and eat it too. Austria needs a lot more than tourism to sustain it's economy.
To get to the stage of mining, you must get firstly through the approval process. Then you must go through the financial process and then the final engineering process. Already the processing has been shown as a bridge too far. The energy cost is prohibitive, and the approvals process will be long and drawn out. Even now, as we see, an okay has been given and we have people saying that the umpiring has not been fair.
You will get some jobs in mining and in transporting. You will get Austrian product (processed elsewhere) to go into an Austrian battery plant that will get the EU tick of EU made. And you will start weaning off of China. And jobs will beget more jobs which will beget more jobs and Austria will start to retain citizens.
EUR is not a miner. It never has been and most likely never will be. It is a 5 man band that value adds to projects and then sells to a miner. In nthe case of Wolfsberg, it has already on-sold the asset. Apart that we have still have an umbilical cord attached to CRML, we should not even be discussing this project. It does affect our other assets in the region.
Is CRML a miner? Not at the present. However I believe that it will have to become a miner to have any credibility. It will have to mine Tanbreez which will be easy but seasonal. It will most likely have to mine Wolfsberg eventually. I believe in my opinion that this will be some time away because of the NIMBYism. But until approvals have been given, CRML cannot start to be a miner. All it can be is 5 people waiting for approvals, whilst handing in pieces of paper as and when they are required.
