3,300 British tourists evacuated from Tunisia as riot chaos deepens after president flees
Travel firms tonight pledged to evacuate all British tourists within the next 48 hours from riot-torn Tunisia after the country's president went into exile.
The holidaymakers began flying home as Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled the North African state he has ruled for 23 years.Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi took charge as interim leader.
Mr Ben Ali earlier declared a state of emergency to quell the protests over high unemployment and corruption, which have dragged on for weeks and killed at least 23 people.
