I think The Donald believes he can turn the clock back and pretend that the last 40-50 years of the emergence of Asia and poorer parts of Europe, S America can be swept aside as a reality of economic development.
But we can forgive him that because he brings other very important attributes to the table like the desire to sweep aside a lot of the social lunacy of the past 20-30 years.
