We have just seen the greatest example of group denial since ..... oh, probably 1974.

At 5.15 a.m. on Wednesday we were on our way to finish clearing out some friends'/rellies' houses when we drove down a street, of which most of the residents were standing on the footpath gawping at the flood waters gurgling up through the road drains. Standing, pointing .... nobody, in the whole 1km street was doing. Half a metre more and their houses were gone.

Wednesday afternoon after another two and a half metres we were kayaking around the golf course at the back of their houses, looking through the gaps to the other side of the street where we could see submerged cars and utes.

Bit like the gold market. We've all known it was coming since, oh, probably 1974!! But most are in denial, total uncomprehension as to what is going on around them.
