Getting back to the prickly pear.

A bald or glochid free mutant wouldn't last long in the wild as it would be defenceless against animals that graze on the fruits and pads.

As a result grafting would be needed and that is straightforward as the pads are not leaves but modified stems.

I didn't get to the grafting stage before I sold the farm due to health issues, but this was a good graft--peach on plum rootstock.
