IMO China is already a generation ahead of the USA in manufacturing and global trade.
The USA sat put for a generation and allowed the Japanese and now the Koreans and Chinese to render America's manufacturing hearth to degrade to a Rustbelt simply because the US Government delegates manufacturing to its "Multinationals" and its "Multinationals responded by shifting manufacturing offshore to the cheapest jurisdiction , then flogging the resultant goods and services to the highest revenue generating jurisdictions including the USA and then squirrelling the profits away in tax offshore havens.
While their spruikers lauded freedom, democracy and the American Way, America died. Silicon Valley was supposed to replace manufacturing vis Patent Royalties/IP but of course that wealth was narrowly distributed with the lions share bunged offshore in Taxhavens.
So in summary , the American Government failed to plan and deligated that to the Multinationals and of course we now have a hollowed out America hoping that a a bunch of Billionaires (Oligarchs) can Make America Great Again!!
