Thanks Fozhard, if that is the case then the output water would be of similar quality to Exergen's, as they also use evaporation and condensation (distilling) to treat their waste slurry, the rest is recycled.
The cost benefit has its disadvantage in that it needs to be located with a suitably sized power station. Exergen can be located at the coal deposit aiding the main obstacles for brown coal, transport & emissions.
The fact that brown coal is very cheap to mine as there is no drilling and blasting means that the cost per tonne is in the order of $4/t vs $40/t. The Exergen coal treatment appears to be cost competitive with its black competitors and for the first time allow BM to be mined like similar, although black coal deposits in NSW and Queensland.
