Gallium is on Australia’s critical minerals list, meaning projects like NIM’s Mons have strategic importance, which can help streamline certain processes.

No one’s suggesting WA drops its standards overnight based on overseas headlines. However, the global push to secure critical mineral supply chains has already influenced Australian policy, with governments actively supporting projects that reduce reliance on China. Funding and partnerships drive timelines more than regulation—just look at LTR’s rapid progress once offtake agreements and capital were secured. WA has a proven track record of moving projects forward when demand and geopolitical significance align, as seen in the lithium and rare earths sectors. The idea that mining approvals here are inherently slow doesn’t reflect reality.
