Yes, it refers to the number of letters on an eye chart. The whole point is to help sufferers see better or at least slow the decline in vision over time. Most patients are older in 70s or 80s often in their "marginal decade," so anything that can preserve their quality of life and independence is super important. An older relative of mine has lost their vision and is effectively "blind" from a functional standpoint—they can’t even see stairs, only light and dark shapes. I can’t help but imagine that if Opthea is successful, it could truly help others live better lives.
