Desirable indeed. But this is capitalism and Directors feed at the trough indulgently and freely across ASX and global listings more than ever, so the only time they buy from their own wealth, is when its almost guaranteed. As the famous Peter Lynch used to say that, “Insiders sell for all kinds of reasons. They want to buy a new vacation home. They want to send a kid to college. But they only buy for one reason, which is they think the stock is going up.”

What I'd now say is, Directors award themselves free options and stocks with abandon and shareholders rarely vote against - many don't even understand options schemes (some of the settlement procedures not even disclosed or enforced as needing to be disclosed by ASIC). Be careful of the dilution effects and onerous accounting impingement on the balance sheet - these awards are not for free on the balance sheet let alone dilution. Be at least very wary when they sell. But indeed such is the self generousity of boards and slack governance of the wider industry, when a Board member does amazingly buy stock out of their own pocket, its almost amplified in resonance, as the greed of self awards is so prevalent and unstemmed, its almost rare nowadays.
