"Apart from our normal crop of mining and civil engineering graduates we are getting a significant number looking for careers in robotics and AI.A lot are looking at rocketry and we even have off world geologists .Lets hope some of these guys build their careers and industries in Australia..."

All that will be needed for embryonic robotics. AI or space industries to start springing up around us like mushrooms is for us to start building garages either with a bit more space or without roofs. If we do that then everything else will fall into place.

As to the reasons why we have not yet started building our garages like that maybe because of a certain theory "sometimes called the Hecksher-Ohlin model, details how countries reach the best outcome by specializing in industries with a factor advantage and importing other goods. A country's factor endowments will determine the opportunity costs for specializing in certain goods."

Of course, that a country may overcome the difficulties imposed by such theory by adopting a strong roll for the state, like lots of countries did and still do. But on the basis of what I can read in here the odds of our government daring even just to suggest that will be like 1 in a million.
