Family member just out of Melbourne Public Hospital asked to sign form to get their Health Fund to pay for the stay in a public hospital . My wife and I and others have done likewise in the past without thinking more of it . When you do this the public hospitals waives your policy excess . HOWEVER when I thought more about this matter it made me realise that by doing this we were actually causing ALL HEALTH FUNDS to pay out whereas those without Private Health Insurance were charged nothing . This would amounts to many millions if not billions being paid out by Private Health Insurers annually which would cause much of the increase in premiums annually . Have i missed something here ?
