One of the great things about science is that it is an established process, called, wait for it, "the scientific method".

The method contains a small set of processes or rules. For one, the main one, tests or experiments are controlled, double blind if possible even better.

For another the work is published, so is open to analysis and evaluation, which can be done by anyone, but most usefully by peers.

The work must be able to be duplicatable. That compensates for mistakes or avoids or filters out one-time anomalies.

And the golden rule, from the publication the work can be replicated by others, different from duplicated. A scientific result is only accepted if other scientists can achieve the same results.

And finally, the work when published is open and accurate and complete. Hence the peer reviewed academic literature. A publication comparing results will be sent back for amendment if charts and tables are not in the same units for instance. Like comparing conductivity with diffusivity.

All of this separates good work from the hyperbole that drivels from insiders and publicists spruiking rot.
