SFR could certainly buy into NW QLD, the mines there would not be expensive, given that some are in administration, and it has substantial borrowing capacity.
The question is, would they want to? Small mines are as difficult to run as big ones. Perhaps putting two or three operations together and run a hub and spoke might work.
