degenerating here chaps -
lets set this one straight
The problem (perceived perhaps) is an increase in Greenhouse Gasses emitted by civilisation that trap heat and warm the atmosphere and thus change the climate which leads to changes in weather. OK are we all on board - you don't have to agree with it.
Greenhouse Gasses are those that trap the heat
GHG include
Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6)
Carbon Monoxide(CO)
Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Methane (CH4)
Nitrous Oxide (NO2)
Sulphur Dioxide(SO2)
Water Vapour (H2O)
These are called Greenhouse Gasses or GHG(s)
The most abundant compound emitted is Carbon Dioxide
The international standard is to relate all other GHG(s) back to CO2 based on thier Global Warming Potential, i.e. how much does one tonne of the gas in question ( eg methane) warm the atmosphere compared to one tonne of CO2.
Now the terms carbon, carbon dioxide, ghg and CO2e have become interchangeable.
If it will lift the standard of the debate perhaps we could either all agree to use correct terminology or not split hairs.
