$trillion $$$ question, or the solution would yield someone that.....how to make fast food "healthy", sustain it over time with perpetually squeezed margins, yet not increase the price of the item significantly to maintain the quality....Guzman's began using that very theme - but even they will fall into the margin squeeze trap...
every aspect of fast food has to be sacrificed to squeeze margins when revenue growth is limited. chooks get smaller, mince becomes inferior & smaller, buns full of sugar, tomatoes grown in greenhouses pumped with chemicals, food rots in 1 day (check out the UK), essentially add everything cheap, more sugar, salt, oils n lard and reduce the quality of everything, or start a new fad like "thin base" to convince ppl that its better for them but is actually twice the calories of the thicker bases! flies, dogs and even mice wont touch maccas items dropped on the floor, that tells you something is off.....and look at the next dominoes pizza you order....is half the stuff even meat? processed to such a state that there is zero benefit from its consumption. I cant even get chicken nuggets with > 40% "chicken" meat anymore! i dont even think the chicken is "chicken"....
the fast food sector is where it is because the old value formula is falling apart. u must pay staff more n more. I started on $4 an hour back in my time. Now its $20+ for casuals that you must employ after a year??? the franchisee fee was x% now z% (jumped), COGS (controlled by corporate) has to rise, rents rise, yet your selling price barely moves.....hmmmm...how does that continue to work over time??
broken model, only surviving because customers haven't realised their waste lines are XXXL yet (but their kids are!!) and the growth in cellulite etc caused by the chemicals and poor quality substitution in products is scary...
solve the above riddle and create the next maccas or dominoes. try doing it without charging >$30 for a pizza just to cut a profit from going organic & traditional wood fired! the solution proposed above would turn dominoes into the local Italian pizza store where, even they, are starting to shrink, substitute etc just to remain open and viable.
