And they'd need to take a BIG scalp like in the recent Peter Dutton scandal if they were ever going to be taken seriously. And like that's ever going to happen. Very hard to prove manipulation , insider trading etc.... At least with the more high profile individuals like Politicians , the media ends up destroying them and their credibility. But it would send a clear warning that ASIC is prepared to look into these matters more vigorously.
How many times has the ATO been seen to make public statements that they will be looking into this or that and going after certain offenders. Even the competition watchdog has been very public. So they need (ASIC) at the least , need to be seen in the public eye as actively doing their job .....which is to enforce breaches of regulations and market manipulation matters. In a broadbased manner of course , as these legal issues at times naming individuals etc ....cannot be necessarily put out there before legal proceedings are actually in motion.
