That would be a brave and speculative call given the Onslow road is 2x four metre wide lanes on poorly compacted foundations, with 300 tonne road trains approaching each other every 5 minutes, each travelling at 70 kms/hr, with less than a metre clearance between the two directions. Ultimately, the Onslow road will need to be converted to rail, the way the experts do it. The centre of gravity of the road trains is too high and top heavy and increasing ruts in the poorly compacted road will cause fish-tailing in the trailers. Rectifying this will cost a fortune but won't solve the problem of road trains rolling over. Hiding a poor road surface with ash-felt will only provide a short-term solution. Another crash would deliver a serious blow to the company's credibility. My money says there will be another crash soon.
