My rationale was in questioning the validity of the published permeability for the Dunk sand (< 0.17 mD) because at a much shallower depth where Shell are drilling, the mapped Kianga permeability appears to be in the range 0.7 - 0.8 mD compared to only 0.1 mD at the Canyon -1H well location. My belief is that the trend for greater permeability in the shallower sands of the northwest also applies to the Dunk sand (has been selected as a sweet spot), and that might mean it could have a permeability much higher than 0.17 mD, possibly up to 0.8 mD.
Consequently, if it is possible for the permeability to be 8 times greater at shallower depth, and assuming the unofficial Shell flow rates are correct, then the flow rate expected from Canyon 1H might be around 1 mmscfd (in fact it could be lower than this due to 50% of the horiz. section having low gas saturation on the log).
DD-2 could not cleanup properly because the commingled flow rate was dictated by the overpressured rate from the Lorelle sands. In my opinion, having coiled tubing would not have been sufficient to overcome this and therefore the unconventional sands failed to clean up properly. Elixir never confirmed that they had isolated the Lorelle in order to properly cleanup the unconventional zones above. How much can a single frac produce from the Kianga in DD-2 (vertical well)? Nothing has been published probably because it hadn't cleaned up.
