Duffs has raised a very valid point about short reporting - that only the closing position is reported.
If they manipulate all they long but buy back most of them at the closing auction at the lowest price which has been the case for a month now, they won’t have to report it.
On the back of weak market sentiment and MSB being what it is, I think it creates a perfect environment for shorters.
I’ve been wondering why the closing auction has so much volume lately, but didn’t think it was a serious buyer who wanted to accumulate as such buyer would want the price to appreciate, not the other way around, just look at GG for example.
If shorts are heavily covering at closing auction after manipulating the price in daylight they’ve been making a lot of money for a month. Shortman data will then be quite incomplete and won’t show the full picture, as covered position won’t be revealed.
They can make it look like their position is increasing only marginally, when in fact the true extent is much greater.
