It's not the fact that he's cashing out a few bucks that bothers me. We all have reasons to spend. It's the bullpooing about his reasons for the sale.
He'd be getting the 50% long term CGT discount on the shares he'd be selling so he'd be paying 23.25% tax on any gains. Add on the cost of the shares that he's getting at a 75%+ discount to market means that his explanation covers less than half of his sale volume.
