That is true the benefits that you get from charcoal but it is not Carbon it is Potassium which is very beneficial for flowering, fruiting and the hardening of the leaves on plants that may suffer fungal diseases - particularly Cucurbits - the melons like cucumber which have fairly large broad leaves! Most of the ash from our slow combustion heater contributes to our vegetable garden and fruit trees in this way. It's best to apply the ash in early Autumn so that the Potassium can be taken up before the next fruiting season - that's what I do with all my deciduous fruit trees! Good for tomatoes as well - apply at flowering time! Otherwise you can buy Potassium Chloride or Potassium Sulphate from a Garden shop - Potassium Sulphate is the best form if you can't find any wood ash!
See the benefits you get from burning!!! Co2 and Potassium - Natures own fertilizers!
